Gvantsa Jishkariani, Manuel Resch & Maximilian Maria Willeit
City Gallery Brixen / Bressanone

The group exhibition angoli secchi secchi, featuring works by Gvantsa Jishkariani, Manuel Resch, and Maximilian Maria Willeit, is the last exhibition of the Stadt Galerie Brixen in 2022 and simultaneously the final exhibition curated by Elisa Barison. It represents an international exchange between the young Georgian artist Gvantsa Jishkariani and the two native Bolzano artists Manuel Resch and Maximilian Maria Willeit, both living in Berlin. During a residency at Lottozero, a center for textile art and design in Prato founded by Tessa and Arianna Moroder, the artists were able to meet, explore similarities and differences in each other’s practice, and, not least, produce new works for the exhibition in Brixen. In Prato, they gained insight into the city’s textile district and the cycle of processing and reuse of fabrics (especially wool). This new perspective on fashion, which ultimately plays an important role in the lives of all three artists—not least due to the visual contemporary culture they belong to—has significantly shaped the works in the exhibition. The exchange promises exciting developments stemming from a shared foundation: for Jishkariani, this leads toward an iconoclastic figuration, while Resch and Willeit deal with the construction and dissolution of the image between digital and painterly work.
