South Tyrolean Artists Association

The Südtiroler Künstlerbund (SKB) is a cultural association founded in Bolzano in 1946. Today, it brings together more than 500 active members from three generations.

SKB serves as a meeting point for artists and audiences with an interest in contemporary art. Through programmes and projects in the fields of visual arts, literature, music composition and architecture, the association promotes, explores and communicates contemporary artistic practices, making them accessible to a broad public.

The headquarters of the Südtiroler Künstlerbund are located in the Deutschhaus on Via Weggenstein in Bolzano. In 2024, the long-established Galerie Prisma, which had been active for more than three decades, closed as part of a comprehensive structural and conceptual reorganisation of the association. The premises were subsequently expanded, and today SKB offers approximately 1,200 square metres of exhibition, project and workspace.

The site is home to SKB Artes, the association’s exhibition venue, SKB Frei.Raum, a dedicated project space, and the seven SKB Ateliers, subsidised studios made available to local artists. Since 2026, SKB LAB has complemented the programme as an international institutional residency and members’ laboratory, fostering artistic exchange across regional and national borders.

In addition, SKB has managed the StadtGalerie Brixen since 2020 and has awarded an annual residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris since 2019. Numerous competitions, open calls and collaborations with public and private institutions in Italy and abroad, together with a diverse programme of courses and professional development opportunities, further enrich the association’s activities.

A central focus of SKB’s work is the support and advancement of emerging artists, the promotion of interdisciplinary practice, and the strengthening of local and international networks within the artistic community.

The activities of the Südtiroler Künstlerbund are supported by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano – South Tyrol, local municipalities, the South Tyrolean Savings Bank Foundation, Raiffeisen Landesbank South Tyrol, Alperia, and numerous generous private donors and supporters.
