Leonard Alberti. Treasures of the Future
Vernissage 25.07.2024, 7 pm.
Raiffeisen Galerie Bruneck
The Eck Museum of Art, the Association of South Tyrolean Artists, and the Raiffeisen Bank in Brunico present works on paper by Leonard Alberti in the third edition of Wertpapier (Securities).
The name “Wertpapier” comes from the world of finance and refers to a document that represents an asset. Similarly, a sheet of paper acquires value thanks to its artistic configuration and presentation.
The idea behind “Wertpapier,” curated by Lisa Trockner, is to promote works on paper, particularly drawings. This format offers talented artists the opportunity to showcase their work on paper and become part of the Raiffeisen Bank Brunico art collection.
In the exhibition, Leonard Alberti displays a series of watercolors in the same format that document the different stages of growth of the Superschmelz kohlrabi variety. The cultivated Superschmelz plant is characterized by its resistance and vigorous growth with slight lignification. With his works on paper, Alberti visualizes the individual beauty and diversity of the varieties and emphasizes the need for sustainability and conservation.
In the center of the room is a safe containing seeds wrapped in paper: a precious commodity that preserves the cultural heritage, knowledge, and traditions of each plant from generation to generation. The safe is not locked; visitors can take a piece of this document, plant the seeds it contains, and thus become part of a sustainable ecological cycle.
Alberti challenges the traditional concept of value and access to resources. By opening the safe and inviting visitors to take direct action, he creates a space for reflection on our responsibility towards the environment and the possibilities of promoting new forms of life through simple but meaningful actions.
