The South Tyrolean Artists' Association (SKB) and the Eck Museum of Art are holding an open competition to design artist flags for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The aim of the project is to enrich this major sporting event with contemporary art and to highlight the Olympic Games from different artistic perspectives. A total of 20 flags are to be designed and installed at a strategically important location at the entrance to the Antholz Valley during the Winter Olympics.
The selected flags should not only reflect the sporting character of the Games, but also enable an artistic exploration of the themes of the Olympics, sport, internationality, and social and ecological aspects. Artists are invited to present their interpretations of these themes in the form of flag art, thus making a creative contribution to the Winter Games. The aim is to reflect the values of the Olympic movement in an artistic way and to view the Games from a broader, contemporary perspective.
Participation is open to professional artists and emerging artists who were born in South Tyrol, Lombardy or Veneto, or who have had their main residence there for at least three years. The design of the flags offers a unique opportunity to highlight the connection between art, sport and society and to leave a lasting impression at this international event.
