State-supported art institutions could act as a counterweight to the market. To achieve this, viewers should have a much greater say in decision-making.

Unfortunately, conventionally curated exhibitions tend to follow market logic and its cult of exclusivity.

In the wake of the democratization of art, modernism would also have to be reinterpreted: not as a progressive project, but as an elitist cult with colonial aspirations that emerged alongside the art market.
