Belgrade Encounters South Tyrol (BEST) – Architectural Encounters between Belgrade and South Tyrol

The architectural encounters at the Prisma Gallery of the South Tyrol Artists’ Association offer insights into different creative spaces and creative periods. Central to the exhibition is the engagement with the English term “to dwell,” which refers to temporary stay, living, and existential striving for being. Visitors are confronted with an exhibition that provides insights into both the process and result of architectural creation.

Buildings by six architects or architectural firms are presented: Aleksandar Stjepanović, AKVS architecture, Othmar Barth, Martin Gruber Architect, NAEMAS Architekturkonzepte, and SARDO architects Belgrade. Three are from Belgrade and three from South Tyrol, representing different generations. Teams of young, mid-career, and more experienced architects each showcase their creative work through three projects. The approach to the work and the engagement with the common theme “to dwell” reveal parallels, similarities, and regionally conditioned differences. The exhibited projects invite viewers into individual design inspirations and personal modes of expression.

The interplay between disparity and commonality is also reflected in the exhibition design. While a uniform, continuous table loop sets the tone for the different models, a staccato of wall stripes plays a score of striking visual representations. The Prisma Gallery thus becomes an experiential space of encounter, while the architectural positions play their own melodies.
