The ECK Museum of Art and the South Tyrolean Artists' Association, supported by Raiffeisenkasse Bruneck, present works on paper by Irene Hopfgartner.
Opening November 2, 2023, 7 p.m. Raiffeisen Gallery Bruneck
In the second edition of “Wertpapier,” a format launched in 2022, young artists are given a platform and visibility through the medium of drawing. The project is also linked to the purchase of works to expand the art collection of Raiffeisenkasse Bruneck.
The idea behind “Wertpapier” project curator Lisa Trockner's concept is to promote work on paper and expand the Raiffeisen Bruneck collection to include young artists. The selected works will be presented in an exhibition at the Raiffeisen Gallery Bruneck before one of the exhibited artworks becomes part of the Raiffeisenkasse Bruneck collection.
The term “security” derives from a term used in finance to describe a piece of paper on which an asset is recorded. This right can only be asserted by presenting the document to the debtor. The situation is similar with a work of art. It is through artistic design on paper and presentation in galleries and museums that art acquires its value.
In this second edition, artist Irene Hopfgartner is exhibiting her paper works at the
Raiffeisen Gallery. She explores the theme of nature's transformation processes and examines the adaptability of butterflies, caterpillars, and toadstools. Some of her drawings are inspired by ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging.
Other works by Irene Hopfgartner deal with the theme of mimicry, a form of imitation that allows imitators and counterfeiters to gain advantages by deceiving the signal receiver. On display are butterflies with different wings,
animals with two heads, and toadstools that grow in unnatural shapes.
In addition to drawing, the Vienna-based Bruneckner explores the representation of nature through the media
of object art and photography and how human intervention has shaped it, thereby questioning our ideas of naturalness. Her works illustrate the relationship between humans and nature
