Dust is our constant companion. We fight against it with gloves and dust cloths – yet it is as rich and multifaceted as life itself. The City Gallery Brixen now dedicates an exhibition to this troublesome presence: DUST, curated by Michaela Stolte, on view until 15 August.
The exhibition brings together contemporary artistic positions in which dust reveals its almost endless capacity for transformation: as a material that transcends boundaries, preserves traces, and gives rise to something new. Dust is created everywhere and all the time. It is generated through construction work, ploughing, or driving, as well as by nature itself: volcanoes, deserts, plants, and oceans constantly produce tiny particles. Dust is often considered undesirable, posing hygienic, health-related, and aesthetic challenges. Yet it is also a fundamental substance: it makes the sky appear blue and enables the formation of clouds. Every raindrop contains a tiny particle of dust. Dust tells stories of everyday life as well as of the origins of the universe.
Featuring works by Alice Ahad, Jasmine Deporta, Jörg Hofer, Lois Weinberger, an interview by Alexander Kluge, and objects from the collection of the Hofburg Brixen.
The exhibition can be visited during the regular opening hours:
Tuesday–Friday: 10:00–13:00 and 16:00–19:00
Saturday: 10:00–13:00
