At the opening of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, a special art project will take place in the Antholzertal: 15 large-scale flags, created by contemporary artists from South Tyrol, Veneto, and Lombardy, will be installed at the entrance to the valley, making art visible to everyone. Each flag is an individual statement – ceremonial, critical, reflective – interpreting the theme of the Olympics in a unique way.
The project creates a lively dialogue between sport, art, and society, demonstrating that the Olympic Games are much more than a major sporting event: they are a cultural and social occasion that brings people together, tracing the connection between history and sustainability, collective experiences, and individual challenges.
The artists participating in the project are: Alexa Baldessari, Hannes Egger, Karolina Gacke, Urban Grünfelder, Franz Irsara, Wilma Kammerer, Kira Kessler, Oliver Kofler, Sophie Lazari, Nathan Mutschlechner, Damian Piazza, Isabell Pitscheider, Leonora Prugger, Micol Rubini, and the Schwarzenfeld Collective.
The flags will be on display at the entrance of the Antholzertal from early December 2025 and remain installed until the end of March 2026 – clearly visible to locals, athletes, and visitors from around the world.
